Declare Oct 26 state holiday: BJP | | | Early Times Report LEH, Oct 23: Jammu and Kashmir government should declare October 26 as state holiday and it should be revered in the same manner in which Independence Day and Republic Day are. A demand to this effect was made in a meeting of BJP state office bearers and other leaders held at party headquarters under the leadership of state president Shamsher Singh Manhas. He said that it was on October 26, 1947 that the Maharaja Hari Singh took a decision to accede into Indian Union by signing an Instrument of Accession by using his authority under the Independence Act of India. Manhas also objected to statement of the interlocutors and said that these interlocutors should know that they are representatives of government of India and any uncalled for comments of theirs would create misunderstandings and provide encouragement to anti-national elements, who are already out to disturb law and order as also peace in the state. Manhas said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who misleads the people of the state by claiming that his government is not discriminating on the basis of region, has no respect for the constitution also. He added that Omar speaks one language in New Delhi and changes it when in Kashmir. He said that the BJP has chalked out series of programmes to be organized in connection with accession of J&K with India in order to make masses aware of the finality of accession. The meeting had been convened to take stock of preparations being made for celebrating accession day across the State. Those who attended the meeting included Sat Sharma, Usha Choudhary, Jugal Kishore Sharma Yudhvir Sethi, Ramesh Arora, Balbir Ram, Rajesh Gupta, Karan Singh, Sakina Bano, Munish Sharma, Priya Sethi, Pariomksh Seth, Capt. (Retd.) Kasturi Lal Sharma and Munish Khajuria.
