JMC continues drives against adulteration | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 23: In its drive against adulteration of food items, especially during forthcoming Diwali festival, the Health officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation along with a team of food inspectors inspected about 80 no's of food establishments. Following instructions from S.C. Sawhney, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Jammu, the team of officials visited Old City, Railway Station Area, Jewel Area, Akhnoor Road, Bus Stand, Canal Road, Bhagwati Nagar, Hari Market, Gandhi Nagar and seized about 200 kgs of sub-standard sweets and destroyed on spot. The team also stopped the preparation of Sweets in the workshop of Mahajan Sweet Shop at Dogra Mohalla Canal Road, Jammu which was running without obtaining license from the Health Officer (Local Health Authority). The Municipal Authorities also approached the Railway Station Authorities for seeking their co-operation to curb the entry of adulterated and sub-standard Khoya, Milk Cake etc in the Jammu City. The Jammu Municipal Corporation once again asked the food establishments/vendors to ensure supply of pure and fresh products under proper hygienic conditions to the general public failing which strict action shall be taken against them. Besides this, the Municipal Veterinary Officer along with field staff conducted drive against the adulteration of milk and visited the areas of Jewel, Bikarm Chowk, Ware House, Nai Basti, Trikuta Nagar etc. During the drive, 65 no's of milk cans were checked out which 16 no's of samples of milk were sent to laboratory to check the quality of the milk. The team also destroyed 3 no's of milk cans found of sub-standard quality. The team also lifted polythene carry bags from the areas of Gandhi Nagar, Panama Chowk, Nanak Nagar, Preet Nagar, Trikuta Nagar and a total fine of Rs. 5000.00 was charged from the defaulters. Further continuing the drive to check the menace of stray animals, the team had also visited the areas of Panjthirthi, Circular Road, DC Office, Gumat, Rehari, Subash Nagar, Potali, Patta Bohri, Canal Road, Bantalab, Janipur, Narwal, Bahu Fort, Transport Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Diginan Gandhi Nagar etc and lifted 16 no's of stray animals from these areas. The stray animals were impounded in the Municipal Cattle Pound. An amount of Rs. 2400.00 was also realized from the owners of stray animals. In another move, the Enforcement Staff led by Sh. Satish Khajuria Chief Enforcement Officer, along with Police Force continued the drive against the unauthorized constructions and demolished three no's of iron rolling shutters which were being fixed to convert the residential building into commercial one at Resham Ghar Colony thereby changing the land use of area and also demolished the steps / platform raised upon part of lane and drain there. Thereafter the team while continuing the anti encroachment drive also visited areas of Sarwal, Rehari, New Plot, Janipur etc., to clear the footpaths/ pavements from the encroachments made by the shopkeepers / vendors by keeping the goods / articles.
