Parties gear up for Panchayat polls | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Oct 23: With the Panchayat polls coming closer, political parties in border district Rajouri have geared up to launch campaign and gather garner public support for their party candidates. As the state government has decided to hold Panchayat polls in December, political parties have launched their campaign in Rajouri. Although Congress has already started preparation, National Conference (NC), Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Peoples Democratic Party have also jumped into the election campaigning. District President of National Conference Bashir Wani on Friday declared campaign open for the Panchayat polls by convening meeting of the party leaders in the Dak Banglow, Rajouri for charting out strategy for the polls. Various leaders participated the meeting in which it was decided to launch campaign for the polls. Bashir Wani said that NC is ready to fight Panchayat polls and they have kicked off campaign for the elections. He said that although it is yet to decided whether they have to fight election with Congress or not, he said that NC is preparing to float candidates on every Panchayat. "We can drop our candidate only if party high command will take some decision regarding the same", Wani said adding that people are enthuasitic to participate in the elections and they are sincere in the developments of the villages. Main opposition party in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also initiated their campaign for the polls and they are luring the voters on the name of self rule agenda. "Although we aware people about self rule, we are also telling them to elect honest and dedicated workers as Sarpanches and Panchs so that their village is developed", Tazeem Dar, senior PDP leader said adding that when the corruption is found everywhere, people must come forward and elect honest people in the Panchayats. Talking a dig at the government, Dar said that although Chief Minister had promised employment in one family during the last assembly election but he failed to provide even a single employment in a family. "The employment plan of the government has also failed and Sher-I-Kashmir Employment Generation Programme was mere a joke than a sincere effort to curb unemployment", he said, adding, voter must keep these things in mind and should support those parties who had brought relief for them when they were being restricted in their houses after 5 pm. On the other hand, Bhartiya Janata Party has also started preparation for elections and they are garnering support by exposing the policies of the government. "Common man has been crushed due to rising prices and the centrally sponsored schemes like MGNREGA are being misused", state secretary of BJP, Advocate Vibodh Gupta said adding that the residents are being deprived of basic facilities of life like water and power, He said that there are various villages in Rajouri where the residents are facing different problems. "We will try to highlight these problems and mitigate them", BJP leader said. Although Congress has already appointed Jahangir Mir, MLC as Returning Officer for party elections in Rajouri, the party is yet to launch formal campaign for the polls. "We are preparing for this from the last many months and our RO Jahangir Mir has already directed us to reach the people and garner support for the party", Mushtaq Ahmed, former councilor and Congress leader said.
