JU promoting privatization at fast pace

JAMMU, Oct 23: Going one step ahead on the road of privatization in higher education, the University of Jammu has allotted Post Graduation Course to a private institute namely Bhargava Group of Institutions, Samba owned by a politician.
Notification for the admissions in the post graduation has been notified. The only private college affiliated with the University of Jammu to have a non-professional post graduate course.
The permission has been granted by the University of Jammu only recently. Various Government Colleges affiliated with the University of Jammu have been also allotted various post graduation courses by these colleges are vying for required facilities and staff.
Educationists are of the view that these private colleges in connivance with Jammu University (JU) are just acting as a money minting machines. Even various departments of University of Jammu are lacking required staff and even facilities, then how could these private colleges provide requisite facilities to the students.
It is pertinent to mention here that from past few years, private B Ed colleges are mushrooming in the Jammu region, not only this many private
colleges these days are also offering academic degrees.
Interestingly, many of these colleges are owned by politicians of all hues. They do not care for providing facilities to the students, just work for money minting machines allegedly at the connivance of the university officials.
Dean Academic Affairs (DAA), University of Jammu, RD Sharma said that it was true that the Bhargava College have been awarded PG course only after the assurance of the college authorities that facilities including staff would be provided to the students. He also said that no other private college had applied for allotment of PG courses.
Interestingly, University of Jammu had fully cooperated with the private B Ed colleges in filling up of their 20, 000 of seats. It had also allowed three phases of admission cum counseling just to appease the B Ed college owners.
