Rs 4100 realized from defaulters | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Oct 24: To keep a strict vigil on the rate and quality of eatables a team of officers under the direction of District Development Commissi-oner, Udhampur, Baseer Ahmed Khan today launched a massive checking drive in Udhampur town. The checking squad, comprising officers from Consumer Affair and Public Distribution, Municipality and Police checked number of establishments like sweet, fruit and vegetable shops, hotels, tea stalls etc in Gool Market, Bus Stand, Mukharjee Bazar, Salathia Chowk and Main Bazar. During the checking 14 challans were produced in the court of law and a fine to the tune of Rs 4100 was realized on the spot from the defaulters for violating Essential Commodity Act (ECA).’ It is pertinent to mention here that the District Development Commissioner Udhampur during a meeting of officers and representatives of Halwai, fruit and vegetables and other trade unions has asked shopkeepers to refrain from over charging and ensure quality of sweats and other commodities. According to the drive would continue in the district and strict action, under law would be initiated against the defaulters.
