Anti-India elements in full command: Problem in Jammu, interlocutors in Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 24: The people of Jammu province, who are nationalist to the core and have made supreme sacrifices during all these 63 years to controvert the pernicious influence of the Kashmiri separatists and communalists, are most unfortunate. There is none in New Delhi who is prepared to redress their grievances and empower them or bring them at par with the privileged people of Kashmir. They were at the receiving end in 1947, when the state acceded to India, and they are at the receiving end even today. New Delhi dismissed them with contempt in 1947 and transferred political power from Jammu to Kashmir using surreptitious means and it is doing exactly the same even today. In fact, New Delhi is now seeking to throw in their lot with the Kashmiri extremists so that they suffer more humiliations at the hands of the votaries of Pakistan, self-rule, greater autonomy and independence. What seems to have prompted New Delhi to dismiss with contempt the people of Jammu is the unwillingness on their part to take the law of the land into their hands, throw sharp-edged boulders on the security force personnel to kill them, attack symbols of the Indian State and raise anti-India slogans. New Delhi, it seems, listens only to and bows before those who take recourse to unlawful and anti-national activities, as has been happening in the Kashmir Valley. It perhaps believes in the French president General De Gaulle's formulation: "If you wish to forge a lasting peace in Algeria, negotiate with those who are firing on your soldiers; never negotiate with those with no blood on their hands because they are irrelevant." How else should one describe the New Delhi's preferential treatment to Kashmir where the subversives, unruly elements and gun-totting militants are carrying on a relentless anti-India campaign and hatred for the people of Jammu where they are carrying a full-scale pro-India campaign, coupled with the demand that they should be empowered so that they could discharge their obligations towards the nation more effectively and resolutely. New Delhi knows that the people of Jammu and Ladakh are for India and against those advocating autonomy, self-rule, Pakistan and independence and yet it appears out to outrage their sentiments and ignore their legitimate political an economic aspirations. New Delhi knows that Kashmir has been ruling the roost since 1947; exploiting to the hilt the people of Jammu and Ladakh and destroying them politically, culturally, socially and economically; and enjoying unbridled legislative, executive and financial powers and yet it is yielding to the communally-motivated demands of the Kashmiri leadership. The fact of the matter is that New Delhi has no place for the people of Jammu and Ladakh in its scheme of things. It was Kashmir in 1947, it is Kashmir today and it shall go on outraging the sensitivities of the people of Jammu and Ladakh in the future as well to pamper Kashmir and pander to communal and separatist politics there. Hence, it is only a natural corollary that the newly-appointed three interlocutors on J&K Dileep Padgaonkar, Radha Kumar and M M Ansari have decided to spare three out of four days for Kashmir so that they could hobnob with the stone-throwers, separatists and extremists there; so that they could meet the injured subversives in the hospitals where they are under treatment; so that they could get sufficient time to establish that they are with the likes of Geelanis; and so that they are able to formulate recommendations acceptable to those seeking separation from India on religious grounds. It needs to be underlined that these so-called interlocutors, who are already known for their controversial views on J&K, including the views that J&K is a political problem and it needs a political solution and Pakistan is a very important factor in the Kashmir's political situation and Pakistani concerns need to be addressed for the sake of forging a lasting peace in Kashmir, have decided to spend three days in Kashmir and only one day in Jammu. They have expressed the view that they would like to spend one full day with the detained stone-throwers to understand what they want and that they would hold parleys with those seeking independence, Pakistan, autonomy and self-rule. They would knock at their doors and request them to meet them. It is strange that problem is in Jammu that houses millions and millions of the marginalized, humbled, badly let down, exploited and discriminated against nationalists, including over one million refugees, including those who do not have even the normal citizenship rights, but the interlocutors want to spend three days in Kashmir that houses the India's most prosperous and highly politically empowered Muslim community. They should have decided to spend three days in Jammu in order to listen to the woeful tales of the people of this region. That they decided otherwise is a proof that their only mandate is to further pamper the already rather pampered Kashmiri separatists and communalists. The statements they made in Srinagar on Saturday immediately after their arrival do suggest that they have come to the state not to listen to the nationalists but to conciliate those whose bottom-line is secession from India. It's horrible; it's disgusting. This is the way the world ends not with bang but with whimper. Time for Jammu leadership and Jammu people to assert in the manner they asserted in 2008. |
