`India is a cage that holds people forcibly' | l Roy, Navlakha support Kashmir struggle | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 24: India is a cage in which millions of people of different nationalities are held against their will. This was stated by celebrated writer, Arundhati Roy while speaking at a seminar organized by Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) in the summer capital today. The seminar titled Whither Kashmir? Freedom or enslavement? evoked massive response. The seminar was also addressed by noted film maker Sanjay Kak, human rights defender from Delhi Gautaum Navlakha and a trade unionist from Delhi, Ashim Roy. Arundhati hailed the stone pelters for "taking the freedom movement to a decisive phase". Expressing solidarity with the victims of violence, Roy urged the people of Kashmir to sustain the momentum. Lashing government of India for what she called "colonial attitude" Roy said : "New Delhi Sends Kashmiri soldiers to North Eastern States and Jharkhand." Similarly Naga soldiers are send to Kashmir to spread terror." Roy said the happenings during the past four months had changed the opinion in India. "The people of India are no showing willingness to talk Kashmir. This, in my opinion is the greatest achievement of the past four months", she said. Sanjay Kak expressed similar views. "Not only Kashmiris, the Dalits and other people are also suffering in India. "Dalits comprise 30% of Punjab population. No girl escape rape or molestation", he said. Kak urged Kashmiris not to complain of pain and sufferings. "Focus on the future and strive hard for achieving your goal", he said. Ashim Roy stressed need for a strong trade union movement in Jammu Kashmir. "It will help the on-going movement", he said. "We have urged the trade union organizations of India and Pakistan to join hands to help the on-going struggle in Kashmir", he said. Ashim said the on-going battle in Jammu Kashmir will succeed. "I want to know about the fate of trade union system in post independent Jammu Kashmir", he questioned. Earlier the seminar was addressed by senior journalist, Parvez Bukhari. "The people must contribute in whatever way they can to the freedom movement. Silence at this stage is criminal and should not be allowed", he said. The audience comprising mainly of young students posed a questions to the speakers. Issues ranging from having alliances with the Taleban and return of Kashmiri Pandits were discussed in detail. |
