EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 24: The main opposition BJP will seek resignation of three Union ministers including Minister of Home Affairs, P Chidambaram, Minister of External Affairs, S M Krishna and Minister for Law Vera pan Moily for backing Omar Abdullah who has challenged the merger of Kashmir with Indian Union recently.
This was stated by Party Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha, S S Ahuluwalia while addressing a function here today organized by Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Forum in connection with observance of Accession Day.
The BJP will not allow the Parliament to function and it will seek the resignation of three Union ministers for violating the Constitution of India by backing Omar Abdullah who challenged the accession of Kashmir with the country, he said.
The Party will not budge an inch from its demand and will press either for the resignation of three ministers or unconditional apology from them, he added.
Making a strong dig at Chief Minster, Omar Abdullah, Mr Ahuluwalia said as CM he was not supposed to make the statement and this way he too had violated the Constitution on whose name he took the oath of office and secrecy. ``I am astonished at the statement of Mr Abdullah and it is unfortunate that he still continues in office'', he added and demanded immediate resignation of Mr Abdullah also.
The BJP leader said the J&K Chief Minister with his statement tries to draw parallel to the Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani, its moderate faction chief, Moulvi Umer Farooq and JKLF leader Yasin Malik. This way the Chief Minister tries to address the Pakistani cause and not Indian, he added.
Terming J&K an integral part of India, he quoted the Section 3 of the State Constitution also which reads that J&K is an integral part of Indian Union and continue to remain so.
He said Mr Abdullah who has created a controversy on the name of accession of the State with Indian Union need to go through the Section 3 of the J&K Constitution as well as the address made by his grand father Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah to Constituent Assembly which ratified the instrument of accession.
Criticizing the role of interlocutors on Kashmir Mr Ahuluwalia said ``I doubt that they can reach any solution. The Government has already reached an agreement and the map is ready. The interlocutors have been appointed to seek the signatures only'', he added.
But this will boomerang as UPA Government has failed to take the principal Opposition Party into confidence and it also does not have majority support in the Parliament, he told reporters at the sidelines of the function.
Earlier addressing the function the panthers Party MLA and former Minister Harsh Dev Singh said that it is high time for the people of Jammu to fight the struggle for their rights jointly. Mr Singh, while turning tables on the State Government criticized the role of Congress also who did not utter a word against the statement of Omar Abdullah.
The NPP MLA, while declaring J&K an integral part of India also made a dig at the interlocutors for terming it a dispute. He alleged that they are ignorant of the facts as the Maharaja had signed the instrument of accession and the same was stamped by the then Governor General of India Lord Mountbatton next day.
MLA Bishnah Ashwani Sharma also lambasted the Chief Minster for challenging the accession. He made a dig at Union Ministers for backing his statement. He urged the people of Jammu to be ready for a decisive struggle for their rights as Jammu continues to face the discrimination for years together.
He alleged that West Pak refugees are not given the right to vote nor issued the PRCs which is a total injustice. The speakers said the discrimination has not been confined to the common man but even the martyrs also. They criticized the Government for giving one color TV set to police martyrs families from Kashmir at a function two days back while the martyrs' families from Jammu and Kathua districts were given a blanket and one pressure cooker respectively.
Bar Association, chief Sunil Sethi also criticized the statement of Chief Minster by terming accession lawfully final and irrevocable. BJP Legislative party leader Chaman Lal Gupta who also made a dig at the CM's statement said for the total integration of the state with rest of the country Jammu region and other nationalist forces of the state have given a lot of sacrifice and they will not let it go waste.
Others who spoke included Rmesh Sabharwal convener of the Forum, Dr Narinder Singh, Moti Koul president AIKS, Akali Dal state chief and Capt. (retd) Dewan Singh ADC of Maharaja Hari Singh.
