EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, OCT 25: THE Government of India has reportedly taken serious note of the media propaganda of Pakistani and its occupied Kashmir radio and television channels and steps are being taken to block this signal in border areas, especially Poonch and Rajouri. These stations are airing anti-India propaganda and are being used to motivate youth in militancy.
Sources said that Government of India (GOI) is contemplating to block the signals of all Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir based radio stations in frontier districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
They said that the GoI has reportedly directed authorities of All India Radio (AIR) to block all Pakistan and Muzaffarabad based radio signals in Poonch and Rajouri. “Defence Ministry has passed on directions to AIR and intelligence agencies to make sure that the radio signals along the Line of Control (LoC) are blocked”, sources said.
Sources said that in this regard a central team comprising five members of AIR and intelligence officials had visited Rajouri and Poonch to take stock of the situation.
“Though the team gave an impression that they were here to strengthen AIR signal but they had arrived with the intention of locating various points near LoC where they will erect the towers to disrupt the Pakistani radio signals,” the sources said, adding, “ the team visited Behram Gala and Pirbadesar areas and identified the locations.”
“Pakistan Radio, Mirpur FM and Tralkhal FM of Muzaffarabad are the most popular radio stations in both these districts and about 80 per cent of the populace listens to the programs aired by these stations. These stations have strong signal in the area,” said a local Fareed Khan.
Khan said that most listened programs in the area are Hai Ya Allal Falah and Soutul Quran aired by Radio Pakistan. “These radio stations are popular as most of the programs are aired in local languages – Pahari and Gojri,” he added.
Among these stations, Sada-i-Hurriyat-i-Kashmir Radio is directly airing anti-India propaganda and is using the medium for motivating youth in the militancy. With GoI plannings, such radio signals might be blocked in near future.
