| Interlocuters told to opt for Govt.accommodation | | | Early Times Report
Jammu,October 25 :-Hours before landing in Srinagar the team of three interlocuters,headed by Dileep Padgaonkar,had conveyed to the state Government that they neither required Government accommodation nor the official cars and any security.And to ensure that they stuck to their plan rooms had been booked in a private hotel in the state's summer capital.
Inside reports said that soon after landing in Srinagar the interlocuters were given accommodation in a Govrnment guest House in Srinagar.They were provided with bullet proof cars and adequate security cover.These reports said that during the last two days the interlocuters have visited a number of areas and met a cross section of people while moving in the Government provided bullet proof cars.
These reports said that interlocuters did not stick to their initial plan of paying for boarding and lodging in private hotel.It is not yet known whether they changed their plan dnd shifted to the Government guest house on the advice of the state authorities or they opted for a better accommodation where they could spend days in a secure atmosphere.Reports said that apart from enjoying free lodge and board they had a nice time discussing the situation and the political weather with the Governor,N.N.Vohra,and the Director General Police,Kuldeep Khoda,at the dinning table.
In fact the interlocuters,despite the fact they had been appointed by the Government of India for opening the channels of dialogue with a cross section of people,including political leaders,separatists,academicians,traders,students,wanted to project themselves as people with an open and free mind and not as agents of the Congress led UPA Government.Reports said that they had in mind that if they accept Government accommodation,food served by the hospitality and protocol Department,and bullet proof vehicles and escort they would not be a welcome among the separatist camps.In order to establish a direct channel of communication with the separatists the interlocuters had framed their programme of rejecting any Government accommodation and any other facility.
What went wrong then ? The interlocuters are said to have not opted for Government accommodation and other facilities on their own.Reports said that the
Director General Police,Kuldeep Khoda,had directed the concerned state agencies to provide accommodation to the interlocuters in the guest house and make available bullet proof cars and escort for them.The state Government willingly accepted the suggestion for treating the team members as tthe state guests.
Reports said these steps were taken to ensure safety of the interlocuters because there were elements operating in Kashmir that were inimical to any process of dialogue and reconciliation.These elements,reports said,have been active in trying to sabotage any peace process and that too at a time when the over four month long turmoil had brought the Government of India under pressure for resuming dialogue with the Kashmiri separatists and with Islamabad also.
According to these reports,the state Government agencies did not want to leave anything to chance when anti-India elements were engaged in kicking up major trouble in Jammu and Kashmir days before the arrival of the US President,Barack Obama,in New Delhi. |
