JMC book defaulters | | | EARLY TIMES Jammu, OCT 25:Continuing its drive against the food adulteration, a team of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) led by health officer inspected about 200 shops and business establishments and have booked around 39 shop owners. Under instructions from S.C. Sawhney Commissioner, JMC, Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation alongwith team of food inspectors visited areas like old city, Bakshi nagar, Rehari, Subash nagar, Janipur, New plot, Paloura, Bhori, Talab tillo and Canal road. During the inspection 39 defaulters were booked under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and J&K Municipal Corporation Act 2000. An amount of Rs. 15,500 was charged as fine from the defaulters on spot. The team also stopped the preparation of sweets (Patisa) in a workshop at Lakharmandi Janipur, Jammu which was running without obtaining license from the Health Officer (Local Health Authority). About 220kg of substandard, unhygienic and uncovered sweets like Patisa, bakery items, Namkeens and Phenian were destroyed and about 80kg of substandard Raw Material was also seized on spot. The Jammu Municipal Corporation once again asks all the shopkeepers, food establishments / vendors to ensure supply of hygienic, pure and fresh products under proper hygienic conditions to the general public failing which strict action shall under the Provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and J&K Municipal Corporation Act 2000 shall be taken against them.
