Vaishno Devi pilgrims suffer as Katra bandh enters day-3 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 25: Vaishno Devi pilgrims continue to suffer as the Katra town today observed complete shutdown for the third consecutive day against the shifting of bus stand from the present location. The Katra Development Committee on Saturday gave a bandh call and staged demonstrations against the authorities over shifting of bus stand to the new site alleging that it would affect the environment. The bandh, however, brought torrid time for the pilgrims reaching the holy town to trek down 13-km long track to Bhawan due to the ongoing agitation as shops, food junctions and dhabas remained shut. ''The demand is genuine and the protest would continue unless the authorities do not take any appropriate decision over shifting of bus stand,'' a member of the Katra Development Committee said. He said to avoid any inconvenience to the yatris, the ponnywalas, three-wheeler association, pithoos and mini bus operators have been asked to stay away from the agitation and continue with the routine work. The protestors yesterday burnt tyres and shouted slogans against the authorities and said the latter had started the work without any consideration. Additional deployment of troops has also been made in the town in continuation with the agitation.
