| Backward class students must get equal opportunities: Sonia | | | New Delhi, Oct 31 Pitching for a better deal for OBCs, Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said students from backward communities must get equal opportunities for education to ensure development of the country. "To ensure development of the country, backward class students must get equal opportunities," Gandhi said at the concluding ceremony of 'Drishtikon,' a training camp of NSUI district presidents, here. Asking the students to be more disciplined in the campuses, she said, in an apparent reference to the recent violence in a Ujjain college, that "some recent incidents in certain campuses have been very regrettable. "It is the responsibility of the students to maintain the decorum of the campus. If students lose their way, there would be anarchy everywhere," she said. "Students must imbibe the right values instilled by our leaders and become responsible citizens," she added. Gandhi also asked NSUI cadres to base their movement on the values of non-violence, simple-living and high thinking. Union Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes, AICC General Secretaries Ashok Gehlot and Mukul Vasnik and Delhi Congress President Rambabu Sharma were also present on the occassion. |
