J&K boys beat champion Punjab to reach semis
23rd Sub-Junior National Softball Championship

JAMMU, Oct 25: Beating reigning champion Punjab in the super league round, Jammu and Kashmir boys today qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing 23rd Sub-Junior National Softball Championship at MA Stadium, here.
Now, host J&K shall take on Manipur in the semi-finals tomorrow. Other teams reaching the last four stages in boys section are Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. Both shall be face to face in other semi-final scheduled for tomorrow.
Earlier, in the super league round, J&K boys, maintaining their brilliant form, thrashed Punjab 11-01 to send the champions out of the contest. Sahil, Shubam, Mousin and Jaskaran secured two homes each.
However, J&K lost their first battle in the super-league stage against Madhya Pradesh, but the loss did not affect the team’s entry into the semis.
In another super league match, J&K drubbed equally strong Chandigarh by 10-07. From J&K, Sahil scored highest three homes while Shubam and Pushpinder added two homes each.
In the meantime, semifinals line-up has also been drawn in the girls section with Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and Kerela making it into the last four stages. Now, in the semi-finals to be played tomorrow, Chandigarh shall take on Delhi while Punjab shall be facing Kerela for the final berth.
Meanwhile, Minister for Sports, R S Chib visited MA Stadium and interacted with the participating teams. He was accompanied by senior officers of the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) and members of the organizing committee.
Other Results (boys): Delhi beat HAL 4-1, Chhattisgarh bt Manipur 6-5, Madhya Pradesh bt Punjab 11-0, Delhi bt Chhattisgarh by 7-1, Madhya Pradesh held Chandigarh to draw 6-6 and Manipur bt HAL 12-1.
Results (girls): Punjab bt Himachal Pradesh 16-1; Punjab bt Madhya Pradesh 10-2; Kerala bt Maharashtra 11-0, Delhi bt Manipur 10-0; Chandigarh bt Himachal Pradesh 13-2; Manipur bt Maharashtra 10-0; Delhi bt Kerala 6-0; Chandigarh bt Madhya Pradesh 6-5.
