Govt adopting anti-farmers policy: Kisaan movement | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Kathua Oct 25: CRITICISING the government for adopting anti-farmers policy, the Kisaan Movement, wing of Nature-Mankind Friendly Global Movement, today demanded a comprehensive agriculture policy to develop the agriculture sector as whole which would be sustainable integrated nature. The demand was made at a press conference under the chairmanship of the founder of the movement former power minister Babu Singh at its district office Kathua Singh said that the government has failed to provide procurement facilities to the farmers with appropriate government rate of the paddy, He urged the district administration and the state government to facilitate the farmers by providing the government rates of the paddy and protect them from private players who are still plundering the farmer’s produce at very cheap rates ranging from Rs 750 to Rs 850. He said that a month back the Kisaan Movement had submitted a charter of demands of the farmers to both state government and district administration which included fixing of the appropriate rates of the paddy, procurement of crops , timely availability of the fertilizers but no action has been taken in this direction so far . He demanded that the paddy crop which has been damaged due to heavy rainfall should also be compensated immediately and the fertilizers and seeds for the forthcoming season should also be made available right from the first of November. Meanwhile, he threatened that if the government failed to concede to the demands of farmers, the Kisaan Movement will launch a state-wide agitation. Others who addressed the conference included Convener. Hurmat Singh and other activists Karan Singh, Gayatri Singh, Daya Ram Sharma, Ram Raj and Sanjeev Verma .
