Phony moulvi, 2 JMC employees among 6 held for preparing fake EPICs | The fake cards prepared allegedly for militants, non-state subjects | | SUMIT SHARMA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 25: Ahead of panchayat and municipal elections which are scheduled to be held in December this year, police have arrested six persons, including an alleged militant sympathizer, involved in preparing, issuing and carrying fake electoral photo-identity cards (EPIC) bearing stamp of Election Commissioner of India. While the alleged militant sympathizer was instrumental in supplying EPICs to militants, some property dealers took hefty amounts from the non-state subjects for getting them alloted pieces of land in the state. Two JMC employees allegedly prepared and issued fake I-cards in lieu of hefty amount. Police have recovered from them a large number of fake EPICs, blank cards, stamps of several high profiles and documents of properties registered in their names. The registeries were made on the basis of the state subjects which they obtained on the basis of fake EPICs, police sources said. The racket was busted by the Janipur police on the disclosure of alleged OGW Manjeet Kumar, son of Rattan Lal of Jawahar Nagar, Janipur. Manjeet had been living in the area in the guise of Moulvi. He was lifted by police. During interrogation, he turned out to be an OGW of militants. Manjeet alleged that one Chinore-based and two Katra-based property dealers were part of the racket. While two property dealers, including Rajinder Raina of Chinore and Sanjeev Kumar of Katra were arrested, raids were on to arrest their third companion Deepak Kumar alias Deepu, son of Joginder Pal of Katra. Raids were being conducted on the outskirts of Katra to arrest Deepak, sources said. Sources said two Jammu Municipal Corporation employees Ajeet Kumar and Shiv Kumar, both storekeepers, kept all JMC related record. They allegedly used electronic numbers of original EPICs to prepare fake EPICs, the sources added. After realising that there is less difference between original and duplicate EPICs, they handed them over to Vijay Kumar, son of Bagwan Dass, who, in turn, gave them to the property dealers. Vijay Kumar is working as clerk in geology and mining department. The property dealers later supplied them to Manjeet. It is worth while to mention here that panchayati raj Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar has already said that elections to panchayats will be held in December this year. When contacted, Commissioner, JMC, S K Sawhany said that an inquiry into the incident would be held and whosoever was found guilty, he would be dealt with an iron hand. Sources said more arrests were likely to be made in this connection. |
