450 ultras waiting to cross LOC' | Army fully prepared to scuttle intrusion bids: Brig Dua | | Kunal Shrivatsa EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 25: In the backdrop of the repeated cease fire violations by the Pakistan army, the latest being unprovoked firing in Krishan Ghati sector in Poonch along Line of Control (LoC)on October 24, making desperate infiltration attempts by terrorists to sneak into Indian territory, the Army today claimed that it is geared up to meet any challenge and scuttle the intrusion bids. "Our forces are well prepared … We are prepared for these challenges… We have a multi-tiered deployment in place and as always we will be able to foil terrorists' infiltration attempts." Brigadier General Staff (BGS) 16 Corps, Satish K Dua said here today while talking to mediapersons at Nagrota based 16 Corps Headquarters. The senior Army officer informed that as far as intelligence reports are concerned there are hundreds of terrorists are waiting at launching pads across LoC. "As per the intelligence inputs available with us approximately 450 terrorists are waiting across the LoC and with the routes have been blocked in the higher reaches; the pressure on infiltration would mount south of Pir Panchal." senior Army officer said When asked that why the Pakistan army resorted to firing along LoC at this juncture, Dua said " It is been our experience that Pak army usually resorts to ceasefire violation like this in order to facilitate infiltration of terrorists that are waiting across the LoC." The Army Brigadier said the launching pads have been established on LoC, adding "It is from these launch pads across the LoC that infiltration takes place. It has been noticed that most of the infiltrations is carried out in our Corps through Mendhar area and to facilitate incursion the Pak army resort to firing which has become a regular phenomenon at Krishna Ghati area." "It is sometimes noticed that they create a ceasefire violation almost as a matter of diversionary tactics and infiltration is attempted in a nearby or a sector elsewhere," BGS said After a violation of cease fire by Pakistan troops on September 29 last when they resorted to unprovoked firing and showered rockets and mortar bombs on several Indian forward posts in Krishna Ghati sector, the Pak army resorted to yet another ceasefire violation at the same spot in less than a month on Sunday, which seemed to have been aimed at aiding infiltration, despite India's continued demands to its neighbour for initiating steps to curb terrorism and infiltration. Army jawan Moray Sahdev of 17 Mahar regiment was killed in the heavy firing by Pakistani troops, who indiscriminately fired on Indian posts amid rocket and machine gun attacks. "Pakistani army resorted to an unprovoked violation of the cease fire agreement in the Krishna Ghati sector….. For about an hour they fired with rockets and machine guns on our forward post at the LoC…. One of our jawans got critically injured who later succumbed to his injuries." senior army officer said "Despite Pak army's action, we exercised restraint and did not retaliate in the true spirit of the Confidence Building Measures that were held between the two countries." he maintained BGS said, "We are yet to get a response from Pakistan over yesterday's incident though we have lodged a strong protest with the Pakistan army authorities against this unprovoked violation of ceasefire agreement." |
