EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 25: Your mobile number has got 450,000 GB pounds in the ongoing Coca Cola Intl mobile draw UK. To claim your prize, contact Dr Mark via email: cocacolaprize [email protected] ---- Congrats you have won 500,000 pounds in 2010 Guinness Intl mobile draws winning-3. To claim your prize, contact Mr Walter via email: walphilips3 @gmail.com.The lottery "sharks" continue to target the people here with such tempting emails and SMSes. Hardly a day passes when inboxes of the cellphone and internet users do not receive these messages.
Though the crime branch (CB) of the state police had on December 15, 2009, alerted people to the real motive of these international lottery scamsters, it was yet to devise a mechanism to stop the flow of fake emails and SMSes to the people.
El Gordo, World Wide Winners Search Centre and Prizetec are some of the companies dealing in the fake lottery business. Who knows the names of these companies could be fake even.
El Gordo says: "Claim your Ready-To-Hit tickets today! You could be an El Gordo winner of a whopping US $1.2 billion lottery total prize pool! Prizetec says: "We are a Spanish lottery firm and can make all this happen for you as it gives you the best winning chances. There is a catch....just read on!"
World Wide Winners Search Centre, which operates from Australia, lures people by saying: "At the conclusion of our worldwide search for winners, we have found you to be a man, who is one amongst the luckiest persons in the world."
Prizetec has three classes. To be in Gold Group, the ticket cost is US $89. Silver and Bronze are the other two categories for which the ticket cost is US $49 and $29. The ticket of the World Wide Winners Search Centre is priced low at US $19 only. In its special offer, the company claims to give 23 lakh Australian dollors in cash to an individual winner.
Sunil Sharma of Dounthaly Bazar received a special notice from the World Wide Winners Search Centre, asking him to complete "urgent reply" form and return it to the company within a week's time along with the US $19.
The format is signed by J D Ridgemount, who claims to be the company's chief award officer. To tempt Sunil into buying a ticket, the document says: "When my secretary contacts you after you win, simply tell her how you would like your money delivered. We can either send you AUD $23 lakhs in cash, which will be delivered to you in an unmarked suitcase, or other arrangements can be made. Either way is fine with us."
The company also offers 'special fast-action bonus' and 'free gift box. For faster service, there is also a provision to fax the complete entry form to +61755382260.
Sudhir of Pucca Danga got a highly tempting letter from Prizetec. He did not apply because he could not manage US dollors.Signed by Dennis Waverly, it reads as follows: "As representative for lotteries worldwide, we are pleased to announce that special game numbers in the US $1.2 billion Spanish National Lottery have been reserved for the first 100, who respond. You see, we have carefully requested the company to block numbers to enhance your chances of becoming a winner. Sudhir, this is no joke. These are the numbers that can make you a serious cash winner. Our international lottery purchasing system is designed to enhance your chances of becoming a winner. All we need is your 'Grand Prize Confirmation Request'. You have the best chances of winnng because only limited numbers are issued. And, with thousands of cash prizes, you have a 1 in 6 chances of winning a prize."
Realising that the people in J&K were on the target of these international lottery cheats, the CB on December 15 last year sent SMSes to people, asking them not to fall in the trap of these racketeers.
The CB also asked people to contact it if they found any one operating on the behalf of these cheats.A CB officer said their investigations had shown that countless people had been getting emails and SMSes from these companies almost daily. An awareness was being created among the people in this regard, he informed.
