EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 26: Several functions were held across city of Jammu and other places in the region today as part of celebrations of the 64th accession day of Jammu and Kashmir with India.
The Indian tricolour was hoisted in almost all localities and at main crossings in the city. Men, women and children came out in strength at all the places and sang the national anthem after unfurling the tricolour. Sweets were also distributed by participants to celebrate the day.
Many people greeted one another with “Happy Vilay Divas” or “Happy Accession Day”.
It was on October 26, 1947 that the last Dogra King Maharaja Hari Singh had signed the accession of his princely state with India. The accession was ratified among others by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, grandfather of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Sheikh Abdullah’s endorsement of the accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India is recorded in his autobiography “Aatish-e-Chinar”.
“It is a message to the world that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India,” said Mohinder Sharma, a resident of Gandhi Nagar. Others echoed him.
As a part of its “Accession Week” celebrations programme, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today organised a public rally at RS Pura
Asserting that Jammu and Kashmir’s accession with Union of India is full and final, the BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas today said that no body can dare to challenge it and any one who does should be put behind the bars.
Jammu and Kashmir became a part of India like other states through an Instrument of Accession signed by the then Maharaja Hari Singh and supported by the then popular Kashmiri leader Sheikh Mohd Abdullah. This accession cannot be challenged by any one, Manhas said addressing the rally.
Those who raise questions should know that Article-3 of J&K constitution which says “Jammu Kashmir is and shall continue to be an integral part of India”. Hence, there is no scope for any one to raise fingers on the finality of the accession of this border state to India and therefore the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who has challenged this issue by making controversial statement on the floor of house recently, has even crossed limits by uttering unconstitutional words, and hence he should be sacked and put behind the bars.
