Market checking drive intensified | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, OCTOBER 26: Intensifying drive to check the quality and rates of eatables, a team of officers of Consumer Affair and Public Distribution, Municipality and Police paid surprise visits of the various markets of Udhampur town and booked 16 owners of different establishments for violating Essential Commodity Act (ECA) at here today. The checking squad also realized a fine to the tune of Rs. 2400 on the spot from the defaulters. The squad checked number of establishments like sweet, fruit and vegetable shops, hotels, tea stalls etc in Gool Market, Bus Stand, Mukharjee Bazar, Salathia Chowk and Main Bazar. The team also took samples of sweets and ghee from the sweet shops for their purity check. They also destroyed one quintal substandard fruits, vegetables and sweets. According to the Tehsil Supply Officer, CA&PD, Udhampur, 22 shopkeepers were challaned, out of which 14 Halwalies were Challaned for using domestic gas cylinders in their shops and 8 Rehari/ Phari wallas were challaned for non display of rate lists. While as Rs. 9600/- has also been recovered as fine from defaulters upto October 24.
