Where do ‘huge’ funds come from for anti India activities……?
High time to check activism ‘civil society groups’
10/26/2010 10:59:55 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Oct 26: Pro Azadi people in Kashmir, particularly separatists have a reason to rejoice. For them the so called prominent personalities from so called civil society of India have become a loud voice to echo what they have been parroting for long . Writer activist Arundhati Roy and her likes are only facilitating this new found channel to express in an unbridled manner about J&K, no matter it is in sharp contrast to what Indian state states. Notwithstanding the Centre is mulling some action against her and the Jammu & Kashmir police is looking into her controversial speech on Jammu & Kashmir’s accession to India, it is high time to bring such ‘civil society’ and its members under scanner for not only their utterances but also for the activities they indulge in which certainly amounts to acts of sedition.
These civil society group and the organizations they represent have for some years suddenly started emerging from nowhere and are making their presence felt by a flurry of activities in parts of India as well as abroad, the main focus being to speak against the policies and stated position of India in J&K or other terrorist afflicted areas. The response initially comes as sympathizers or pseudo Human Rights activists who pour out their heart for so called HR violations. The initial years of their activism vis-à-vis Kashmir remained confined to HR violations. But lately these groups and some members in particular have become very loud and vociferous, daring to say anything regardless of consequences it may have for the nation as a whole. In fact these are the utterances they choose to make consciously and willingly without any fear of any adverse reaction, criticism from any quarter, not to speak of any action from the government.
Lobbying and siding brazenly with the separatist ideology, Arundhati Roy for a long time has been questioning India’s stated position on Kashmir. Her controversial speech loaded with remarks that go against the sovereignty of nation has only come as a reinforced take of the continuous offensives she makes time and again. And it is for the first time, rightly so , that Centre is mulling some kind of action , most likely booking her on charges of sedition. It is a different matter she herself and her sympathizers are now making even more outrageous comments against India, challenging what it intends to, apparently in a bid to take these controversial remarks to new heights and remain in media glare. However, there is more to their fad for publicity and so called ‘sympathy’ for the people of J&K or elsewhere they vouch for
While the Indian state for all these years has been ignoring such activism contending it is permitted in a democratic set up, time has come to wake up and tighten the noose on this rather than allow them to spread their pangs in an unbridled manner, which not hurt the sentiments of nation but emboldens the voices of separatism. There is immediate need to put a check on the activities of these civil society groups or such NGOs which discuss the conflict ridden areas of the country. The spurt in their activism also calls for probing the basic aspect as to what is the source of the funds for anti India activism. What is the reason for their ‘motivated’ spirits or in other words what prompts and allures them to say anything and everything against the country. It goes without saying that lakhs of rupees are being spent in organizing the seminars and conferences in which so called civil society members spit out anti India and anti sovereignty remarks. Is it the emeny nations which are channelising and routing money other nations where these organizations show their affiliations or base , is the moot question which now needs to be thoroughly probed by putting their activism under scanner. Or else there will be mushroomed growth soon of such groups and the members in particular.
