Bust of Gen Zorawar Singh inaugurated | Infantry Day celebrated | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Oct 27: Infantry Day was celebrated with much fanfare at the Northern Command Headquarters in Udhampur Military Station here today. Infantry, the queen of the battle, celebrates 27 October each year as the Infantry Day since it was on this day in 1947 that the Infantry soldiers from the Sikh Regiment landed at Srinagar and saved Kashmir from Pakistani raiders. Infantry, the largest component and the premier fighting arm of the Indian Army, is one of the most battle-hardened and combat rich forces in the world. In Udhampur, Chief of Staff, HQ Northern Command, Lt. Gen Jasbir Singh, senior most serving infantry officer present on the occasion, laid a wreath. Wreaths were also laid by retired and other serving infantry also. At solemn ceremony the bust of General Zorwar Singh, the icon of Infantry was also inaugurated at Shardhanjali Park adjoining the Transit hub. GOC-in-C Northern command, Lt. Gen BS Jaswal, in his message felicitated all the Infantrymen of elite Northern Command on this occasion and commended their exemplary performance in combating terrorism as also guarding our frontiers. He exhorted all Infantrymen to continue to live up to the rich traditions of this prime combat arm.Special Sainik Sammelan and Barakhana as well as social and cultural evening also formed part of celebration in Udhampur Military Station.
