Violating ceasefire, Pak fires mortars, bullets on LoC in Poonch | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 27: Violating ceasefire, second time in past three days, Pakistan today resorted to heavy mortar firing and small arms fire, targetting some forward Indian positions in Krishna Ghati (KG) sub-sector of Mendhar in Poonch. Earlier, Pak had resorted to unprovoked fire Sunday last, resulting in the death of a jawan on a forward outpost in KG area. India had conveyed their anguish over the incident to Pakistan in a commander-level meeting held Monday at Nangi Tekri, Poonch. Though Pak had assured India not to violate ceasefire again, it opened the mouth of its guns within two of the incident. SSP, Poonch, Manmohan Singh said there was heavy shelling by Pakistan in KG area. The shelling, which was followed by small arms fire, started at about 3.30 pm and continued intermittently for few hours, he informed. The SSP said India's Kranti and Chajja Maan outposts were the target of Pak army today. Asked if there was any loss to life or property of the people on this side of the Line of Control (LoC), Singh said it was yet to be known. Official sources, however, said India returned the fire. Loss, if any, on the Pak side, was yet to be ascertained, the sources added. Sources said the unprovoked Pak fire was aimed at providing cover to militants waiting in the forward Pak posts to cross over into the Indian territory. A tight vigil was, however, being maintained to foil any intrusion bid by the militants, the sources added.
