Interlocutors’ Kashmir visit created more problems | Playing with dangerous tools | | NEWS ANALYSIS EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 27: The mind-boggling and illogical decision of the Union Government to send three interlocutors in Kashmir has boomeranged. Where was the need to send interlocutors to Kashmir and appoint them? J&K is an integral part of India; it is an established fact. The need of the time was to pull up the erring Chief Minister who has undone all that the Indian nation did in Kashmir during all these 63 years to integrate J&K into India; who has bungled on each and every occasion and who has failed to discharge his obligations to the nation and people of the state and whose rule is known for only rabble-rousing. By appointing interlocutors on J&K, the Union Government only confounded the confusion and created a situation that only helps Pakistan and Pakistani agents in Kashmir and those who are rabidly anti-India and votary of theocracy, regression and exclusion. And, the Union Government appointed interlocutors whose views are similar to the ones who consider J&K a “disputed” territory; advocate trilateral dialogue between India, Pakistan and the Kashmiri leaders, including Geelani, Mirwaiz, Yasin Malik and so on; and seek separation from India on purely religious grounds. It is a different matter that these Kashmiri extremists and separatists cold-shouldered these interlocutors and refused to meet them. What is the contribution of these interlocutors, who completed their five-day-long visit to Kashmir today? They created more problems for the nation than solving the existing ones. They described J&K as a disputed territory; they recommended trilateral talks; they spoke the language of Kashmiri separatists; they asked the Kashmiri youth to prepare a roadmap for “Azaadi”; they shamed the Indian nation by visiting the separatists, murderers and unruly elements in the various jails; they visited the houses of those who were equally responsible for the prevailing unrest in Kashmir; they described the prevailing unrest in Kashmir as the fall-out of the unfinished agenda of partition; they described Pakistan as the most important factor in the political situation in Kashmir and went to the extent of saying the involvement of Pakistan in the dialogue process is a must in order to forge a lasting peace in the state; they behaved as if they had been empowered by the Foreign Ministry to internationalize the Kashmir issue and by the Home Minister to create conditions conducive for the state’s separation from India; they instigated rebellion in the manner the Maoist terrorists like Arundhati Roy, Varvara Rao and Gautam Navlakha did in Kashmir at a time when the interlocutors were very much there and asking the Kashmiri students to get ready with a roadmap for “Azaadi” during their next visit to Kashmir next month; and so on. In other words, their contribution was negative. Their only contribution is that they emboldened further the Kashmiri extremists, separatists and communalists. They crossed all the lines. This is one part of the story. The other part of the story is no different. The interlocutors vitiated the whole atmosphere even before landing in Jammu on Wednesday. The manner in which the people of Jammu protested to register their anger against what these interlocutors did to unsettle the settled issue and internalize the Kashmir issue is a proof that they have angered to the extent possible the nationalist constituency in the state and the rest of the country in general and Jammu province in particular. The fact is that these controversial interlocutors have created widespread resentment and discontent across the Jammu province, which witnessed the people yesterday celebrating the accession day with zeal and enthusiasm, thus making it loud and clear that they would not allow these interlocutors and their masters in New Delhi to do what they want to do to appease the Kashmiri separatists and Pakistan. What has added to the anger of the people of Jammu province all the more is the report that even in Jammu they are visiting the houses of those who have one way or the other contributed to the rise of separatism in Kashmir. That they would visit the residences of those very close to the ruling National Conference, which is responsible for the Indian woes in Kashmir and Jammu and which has all along played divisive and communal politics, should only make everyone here to conclude that the only agenda of these interlocutors in Jammu is to give legitimacy to the controversial persons who have little or no regard for India and the Indian Constitution and who want New Delhi to grant autonomous status to the state and within that autonomous status some paltry and illusory concessions to the people of Jammu and people of Ladakh so that they become slaves of the Kashmiri fanatics. That they would also visit Hiranagar’s jail to meet Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s right hand man Abdul Qayoom should further expose the ill-intentions of these so called India interlocutors. This is the contribution of the interlocutors’ visit to J&K. It would be better if the Prime Minister rein in these interlocutors as well as the Union Home Minister who is giving his unflinching support to them. An immediate intervention on his part has become absolutely necessary. Any delay on his part to show these interlocutors their rightful place and rein in the Union Home Minister would only cause an irreparable damage to the Indian cause in J&K. And, if at all it happens, he would be held responsible because he is the executive head of the country. He should remember that the Home minister and his interlocutors are only playing with dangerous tools. |
