| Two corrupt officials arrested in J&K | | | Srinagar, Oct 31 Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation (VO) arrested a senior official of the Lakes and Waterway Development Authority (LAWDA) under prevention of corruption act after huge assets were recovered from his house during a raid, an VO spokesman said today.
He said the officer Ishrat Aslam Shah, an Assistant Enforcement Officer and in charge of demolition squad of the LAWDA, was found in possession of huge assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Giving details about the raid, he said VO officials raided the house of Shah at Ishber Nishat, on the bank of famed Dal Lake.
The official had five kanals land at Ishber having a market value of over Rs 1.5 crore and a palatial house, besides huge bank deposits and other investments.
The spokesman said during the search of the house some incriminating documents were also found.
Vigilance raids were also conducted at the business establishment of the LAWDA official’s brother at Karan Nagar who took up a share-broking business two months ago and has purchased shares worth Rs 25 lakh of different companies.
The VO has arrested the LAWDA official and registered a case against him.
Another government official, Muhammad Amin Bhat chairman in the office of Collector Land Acquisition Irrigation Department, was arrested while accepting illegal gratification of Rs 1500.
One person identified as Ali Muhammad Bhat of Awantipora had alleged that the official was demanding bribe for release of land compensation of Rs 42,000. The land was acquired by the government for public use.
The tainted money was recovered from the possession of the official in presence of independent witnesses, he said.
