Hurriyat leadership should shun abhorrence: Vakil

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 28: Hurriyat leadership should shun abhorrence and participate in the dialogue process for bringing an end to spate of violence across Kashmir valley.
This was stated by senior congress leader and MLC Abdul Gani Vakil in a press statement issue here today. “Violence, Shutdown, Curfew are all going to further worsen the situation. Willingness of Hurriyat leadership to participate in dialogue process would brighten chances of bringing permanent peace across Kashmir valley,” added Vakil.
He stressed that continued reluctance of Hurriyat leadership in coming forward for talks is not understandable. “Talks are only way out. Interlocutors have come with an open mind to engage every concerned quarter across Kashmir valley. We should not miss this opportunity which has been provided to us by New Delhi,” added Vakil.
He maintained that interlocutors are set to return to Kashmir valley soon and this should be used as an opportunity by separatists to restart stalled dialogue process. Vakil also implored upon interlocutors to take a soft line on holding dialogue with separatists. “If both sides (Hurriyat leadership and interlocutors) remain stuck to their stands, things are not going move forward. We have to make all efforts for restoring peace,” Vakil said.
Vakil also said that UPA government under the guidance of its Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is extremely serious about addressing Kashmir issue in its right perspective. “We should stop doubting intent of union government. The sooner we do it, better it would be,” Vakil advised separatists and other groups which are shying away from dialogue.
Referring to union government’s policy vis-à-vis Kashmir, Vakil said “Center has always vouched for permanent peace in Kashmir valley and it is now for us here in Jammu and Kashmir to understand this. If we do not, impending economic disaster cannot be stopped. Economy cannot be built overnight.” He further said that sanity demands application of mind especially when it comes to hurting the economy.
