EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Oct 28: Winding up their five day visit to J&K on an optimistic note, the interlocutors appointed by the Centre today said any solution to the political problem being explored through continuous negotiations with different sections would be one acceptable to all the three regions of the state. Jammu visit turned a little disappointing as BJP, J&K Panthers Party and some Kashmiri Pandit organizations boycotted them even as a large number of delegations met them on second day today
"Our first visit has been very rich in many ways, primarily because it gave insight into various aspects of aspirations in the two regions……..we can only say we have made a modest beginning of a process that will continue in coming months", said Radha Kumar, noted academician before leaving for Delhi. She also refuted reports in which she has been quoted as having talked about making some constitutional amendments in the perspective of 'Azadi.'
"I never said anything on the lines of constitutional amendments…….it looks fabricated", she said denying outright that has been published a section of media in Kashmir. "Azadi is flexible term………..it has certain nuances and in coming months they will be exploring these nuances", Radha Kumar said while elaborating on her perspective about the term Azadi.
Even though some groups chose not to meet them, the interlocutots however exhibited optimism contending they would have more groups and organizations on board when they visit next state next month." The experience of the first vist has been fruitful nad rich…..we have covered as many sections of society various shades of political opinion and have heard them…….we are gradually getting many things to understand", said Dileep Padgaonkar, the chief interlocutor.
Dileep Padgaonkar, once again made it clear that any solution to the J&K problem has to be one which must be acceptable to people of all the three regions of the state and to all the sections of people having different shades of opinion about political situation.Indicating that the first visit carried significance in many ways, Padgaokar said they would meet the senior leaders of ALL Party Delegation that visited state recently and brief them about their understanding and assessment of the situation.
On the second day of their stay in Jammu the interlocutors visited Muthi migrant camp where they met Kashmiri Pandit migrant families living there ever since they shifted from Valley on account of militancy. Though some organizations of Kashmiri Pandits boycotted them, some senior KP representatives came to meet them in the guest house to present their perspective and understanding of the problem, particularly related to their existence as migrants in Jammu and elsewhere. They also met some leaders of POK refugees living in various camps in Jammu and listened to their views. Besides leaders of some Pahari speaking groups including NC leader Mushtaq Bhukhari met the interlocutors and presented the viewpoint of the community spread across the region.
However, at the political level the interaction of interlocutors took place with the delegations of Congress and NC, both ruling parties. The Congress delegation comprised among others of senior leaders Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma, Praduman Singh, Amrit Malhotra and Dharam Pal Sharma. The main parties of the Jammu region, in opposition BJP and Panthers Party stayed away contending that interlocutors were pursuing separatist agenda. Both the parties, annoyed over some recent statements made by the interlocutors also alleged that interlocutors projected Pakistan as a party in Kashmir issue which was not acceptable to them.
