JMC continues drive against adulteration | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 29: Under instructions S.C. Sawhney Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Jammu the Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation alongwith team of food inspectors and of Health Department (Drug and Food Control Organisation) continued the drive to check the quality of food items being sold in the city especially during forthcoming festival of Diwali and inspected about 80 food establishments like sweet shops, workshops, milk and milk products shops, khoya outlets, fruit juice shops, bakery shops, etc. in the areas of Gandhi Nagar, Satwari, Gangyal, Kunjwani, Channi Himmat, Transport Nagar, Narwal, Old City, etc. During the inspection 5 defaulters were booked under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and J&K Municipal Corporation Act 2000. An amount of Rs. 3000was charged as fine from the defaulters on spot. The team also destroyed about 300 kgs of sub standard sweetmeat like burfi, ladoo, chocolate, milkcake, patisaa and khoya onspot besides lifting two samples of khoya and patisaa and the samples were sent to the public analyst Jammu for analysis for ascertaining standard of purity. The Jammu Municipal Corporation once again asked the food establishments, vendors to ensure supply of pure and fresh products under proper hygienic conditions to the general public failing which strict action shall be taken against them.
