JKPPM draft roadmap for Rajouri Poonch
10/29/2010 9:22:40 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, OCT 29: Expressing concern over future of the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, Jammu Kashmir Pahari Peoples Movement (JKPPM) has drafted a road map for redressing the aspirations of the people of this region and has presented two options for the same.
As per document prepared by JKPPM, Poonch and Rajouri districts are unique districts of the state bordering Line of Control with Pakistani controlled area and the people are confronted with various problems after Independence .
Ina statement, JKPPM activists said that the area can be taken out from the era of backwardness to the development only when government conceded either option –granting Hill Council Status to the area or restoration of state status to Poonch.
When contacted, Chief Executive of JKPPM, Shahbaz Khan said that when the Kashmiries are talking for themselves and Jammuities have their own aspirations, they felt the need to propose future road map for the welfare of twin border districts. “We have almost completed work on Rajouri Poonch-road map and we will soon present the same before Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Governor NN Vohra”, Khan said adding that they are proposing restoration of state status to Poonch and if the option is not possible then grant them the status of Hill Council on the pattern of Ladakh and Kargil Autonomous Hill Development Councils.

He said that Poonch was a state before 1947 and its status should be restored at the earliest so that the people of this area also decide their fate.
Shahbaz Khan said that they were not demanding anything new from the government but were just demanding to restore the status of Poonch. “If the government has some problem in it let they click the other option and grant the area Hill Council status”, he said, adding, the experiment of Hill Council has also been done in Ladakh and Kargil in the state and other parts of India.
