10/29/2010 9:23:03 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Nowshera, Oct 29: PAYING tributes to the civilian and army personnel martyred at Qila Darhal-Nowshera, ember legislative Council and General Secretary and Spokesperson PCC Ravinder Sharma announced construction of a ‘Hall of Fame’ in the memory of martyrs at Shaheedgarh Qila Darhal.
Addressing a gathering including the family members of civilians and Army personnel who laid down their lives during 1947-48, Sharma paid rich tributes to them and announced construction of a hall in the memory of the martyrs. Senior officers of the Army and the civil administration also attended the function.
Sharma recalled that the residents of Qila Darhal created a history when they resisted and repulsed the raiders attacks in their area. The civilian population, including women fought against the Pakistani Army in the area for months together till the Indian Army reached the area. The civilians had taken shelter in the fort at Qila Darhal but didn’t leave their native place.
Later, . Sharma presented a shawl to a brave woman Preet Kour who had snatched a gun from a Pakistani raider in 1947.
Responding to the demands for improving the basic facilities in the area, MrSharma regretted that such a place of historical importance has not witnessed proper development so far. However, besides announcing initial funding of Rs. 3.00 lacs for taking up construction of Memorial Hall, he asked the authorities to prepare project for a road link to the place of memorial and the fort constructed during Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s regime. He said that he has already taken up the issue for the preservation of the fort with the centre government.
