NEW DELHI: The Kerala High Court has declared as void the election of former Union minister P C Thomas from the Muvattupuzha Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala.
The court also declared CPI-M's P M Ismail elected from the seat.
The 81-page judgment was delivered by Justice C N Ramachandran Nair in response to an election petition filed by Ismail, who challenged Thomas's election in Lok Sabha polls held on 10th May, 2004.
Thomas had been elected by 529 votes.
The court held that Thomas had indulged in corrupt practices in the polls.
Thomas, who contested the election as a candidate of the Indian Federal Democratic Party (IFDP), recently joined the Kerala Congress-Joseph.
He was the minister of state for law in the BJP-led NDA government.
