| Avoid controversial statements, Cong high command to Omar, interlocutors | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu,OCT 29: After the leadership of the state unit of the Congress conveyed its resentment over the utterances of two out of three interlocutors to the party high command a secret signal is said to have been sent to Dileep Padgaonkar and Radha Kumar to avoid kicking up controversies.
Party sources said that both Padgaonkar and Kumar have been suggested to make proper choice of words and expressions lest they should give rise to some
fresh controversy. The two have been suggested to avoid interacting with media frequently and if it was possible they should appoint a spokesman who could brief newsmen about the programme and the sessions of interactions the three interlocutors had with political leaders and others.
Sources said that these instructions were given to the interlocutors after the senior BJP functionaries wanted Prime Minister,Manmohan Singh, to make it clear whether the central Government had given the mandate to the interlocutors to talk about azadi and other constitutional aspects of the Kashmir issue. Sources indicated that the instructions to the three interlocutors on the need for avoiding making any statement that could trigger controversy were given after the Congress high command. The UPA Government felt that it may have to face a difficult situation in the Parliament where the BJP could use the utterances of the two interlocutors as a handle to strike against the congress.
Reports said that the Congress high command and the central Government have also advised Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, to stop talking on the state's accession with India and its allied issues and instead concentrate on the developmental activities. The Congress high command has received reports that the BJP leadership was preparing itself for launching a vigorous attack against the Congress on the basis of Omar's statement questioning the irrevocability of the state's accession with India and on the strength of the utterances of Dileep Padgaonkar and Radha Kumar.
In order to save itself from facing an embarrassing situation both the Congress high command and the central Government have decided to lay fresh guidelines to both Omar Abdullah and the three interlocutors so that the two avoided kicking up controversies which may make things difficult for the Congress led Government in the centre.
