Jammu parties mooting idea to form a joint front to fight increasing discrimination
10/29/2010 9:43:56 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 29: To fight against the increasing discrimination with Jammu region various political and social organizations from the Jammu province have mooted the idea of forming a joint political front to meet out all the future challenges together and seek justice for the people of the region.
Fed up with the constant neglect and discrimination meted out to Jammu region since 1947 various political, social and religious organizations of the region are working on the idea to constitute a joint front to fight to launch a joint movement for their rights.
The leaders of these organizations besides accusing the successive state governments for neglecting the aspirations of the nationalist people of the region have not also absolved the Union Government in this regard. They accuse the Central Government of playing with the interests of the Jammu people to please a section of people in Kashmir Valley.
Not only the leaders of political, social and religious parties of the region but also the intellectuals, lawyers and educationists are also favouring the move.
The greatest injustice faced by the Jammu region is that despite having more population and area than Kashmir Valley it has less seats in State Assembly and Parliament than Kashmir Valley, said Ravinder Raina spokesman, Sangarsh Samiti Jammu. ``How far the people of the region will tolerate this injustice’’ he added.
He said Jammu has 37 MLAs in comparison to 46 of Kashmir Valley. Moreover there are three Lok Sabha seats from Kashmir Valley when Jammu region has only two Lok Sabha seats. The people of the region have been tolerating this for years together but they will not tolerate it any more now, he added. The share of funds is not distributed equallay between the two regions and the Kashmir gets a major chunk of Central assistance while Jammu gets a paltry sum, said Pritam Sharma leader of Kranti Dal.
There is lot of potential for the promotion of tourism in Jammu region but no attention was paid to it by the Government till date. During the last 21 years of terrorism tourist trade suffered a lot in Kashmir and had the Government been sincere it could have easily diverted the tourists to Jammu region by exploiting the tourist spots in the region like Patnitop, Surinsar, Mansar, Bhadarwah, Sanasar etc, he added.
He said hundreds of crores of rupees have been spent for the development and beautification of Dal Lake in Srinagar Kashmir while no such steps were taken for the development of Mansar Lake in Jammu region. Moreover Jammu is always meeting the discrimination in other fields also. Over 10 lakh West Pak refugees have been deprived of citizenship rights till date and no positive steps have been taken to solve the problems of the PoK refugees, said Kuldeep Luthra, North India vice president Shiv Sena Bala
Sahib Thakeray. There are many more issues and problems faced by the people of Jammu region to which Government is looking as a mute spectator, he added.
There is a strong feeling among the representatives of the political parties like BJP, NPP, JSM, DPP, DLF, JPPF, Sangarsh Samiti and VHP that all organizations of the region should come under a joint platform to fight for the national cause and seek justice for the people of the region. The idea was mooted by Panthers Party working chairman and former Minister, Harsh Dev Singh while addressing a function in connection with celebration of Accession Day at Parade on October 25. The NPP leader who expressed his dismay over the role of the State and Central Governments said the time has
come that all parties of the Jammu region should come on a single platform to fight for their rights and give a befitting reply to those who are harming the cause of the people of the region.
Mr Singh also shown his willingness of joining hands with BJP if case the party also identifies the cause of Jammu, saying NPP is ready to join hands with any organization who identifies itself with the cause of the Jammu. BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas while commenting on the idea said his Party will be always ready to join hands with all those organizations which are ready to fight for the national cause and discrimination meted out to Jammu region jointly.
The JSM MLA, Ashwani Sharma who was also critical of the constant discrimination meted out to Jammu region by successive governments said he will be the first man to support such a front if constituted.
