Strikes in valley have deteriorated Jammu economy: CCI | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 30: Chamber of Commerce & Industry has reiterated that the economy of Jammu is deteriorating day by day due to constant strikes in the valley. Most of the industries in Jammu are either closed or are at the verge of extinction, said Y V Sharma CCI president in a statement issued here today. Similarly due to severe fall in leisure tourism and pilgrimage, the transports, the hospitality and other sections attached are badly hit. These units are also in critical condition. Trade, the vital organ of the state economy is severely affected. The trading activity is paralyzed. The payment and the material movement have come to a stand still. The money is not revolving and due to the blockage of money the traders are unable to deposit VAT and other government dues, he said. “In spite of our repeated telephonic requests to the concerned quarters time and again, and through press and representations to the Finance Minister the government has not till date issued any notification to extend the date of filing of VAT returns and deposit the VAT amount, although two quarters have passed,” said CCI president adding the traders are being harassed by the department for not filing the returns and depositing the tax. “We request the government to take an immediate action failing which traders will be compelled to accede the demand of the tax payers to launch agitation again for the delay in publishing the notification to extend the date for filing of VAT returns and VAT tax,” warned CCI president
