NSS workshop organized for Distance learners

JAMMU, Oct 30: A two-day long National Service Scheme (NSS) workshop on the topic ‘Role of NSS in Higher Education’ commenced here today on Jammu University campus.
The workshop, organized for Distance learners of PG English, PG Hindi and PG Sociology by Office of the Programme Coordinator, NSS, University of Jammu in collaboration with the Directorate of Distance Education, University of Jammu was inaugurated by Chief Guest, R D Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs (University of Jammu) along with Meenakshi Kilam (Director DDE), and Jasbir Singh (Programme Coordinator, NSS) with the lighting of the traditional lamp.
About 350 NSS volunteers are participating in the workshop. Anupama Vohra, Coordinator, M A English DDE presented formal welcome address.
Speaking on the occasion, R D Sharma congratulated the faculty of DDE for organizing such a workshop for the benefit of volunteers. He made Distance learners realize that they are no less than the students of the regular departments.
Meenakshi Kilam, in her address thanked NSS Coordinator for organizing this workshop and said that other arrangements will be made for distance learners so that they can participated in the other co-curricular activities of the University. After the inaugural session, Jasbir Singh made a presentation and apprised the volunteers about the various activities of NSS.
Interactive session and group activities were conducted by Sandhya Bharadwaj, senior Programme officer of NSS. Anupama Vohra conducted a session on Patriarchy and Gender.
An open discussion on patriarchal set up in society and Gender bias was also held where the students had healthy deliberations.
The workshop has six sessions on Role of NSS in Higher Education, Gender Sensitization, Concerns for HIV/AIDS, Relevance of NSS in Community Work and National Integration, and How to Stay Positive in Life.
In the last session volunteers did a project work on Village adoption, literacy, women empowerment, HIV/AIDS, Right of girl child, NK Tripathi, V D Singh, Vishwa Raksha, Nagendra Rao, Neharica Subhash were also present on the occasion.
