600 children of Rajouri Poonch turning Oscar’s smile Pinki | Smile train manages treatment of cleft lips and palate of childrens | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Oct 30: An International organization - Smile Train has managed treatment of about 600 children’s with cleft lips and palate belonging to Rajouri and Poonch districts in countries different hospitals. These children want to smile like Oscar winner Smile Pinki . As per reports, Smile Train- a charity co-founded in 1999 by Brian Mullaney and Charles Wang with the mission of providing free cleft lips and palate surgery for children in developing countries achieved good name in India and abroad following a documentary ‘Smile Pinki’, enchanting modern day fairy tale about Pinki Kumari, a poor little Indian village girl, who was born with a cleft lip and palate won Oscar award in 81st annual Academy Awards. Although people of Rajouri and Poonch are unaware about life tale of Pinki, they desire to smile like Pinki Kumari. They have nothing to do with Oscar but want to get their clefts treated. “We want that our son smile with normal lips” parent of a child with cleft lips said. The NGO today adopted 25 children for surgery. The children were flagged off by District Development Commissioner Rajouri GA Khawaja while Senior Superintendent of Police, RK Jala was also present. A team from Smile Trian will admit these children in Amandeep Hospital for cleft lips surgery, a team member said. Deputy Commissioner Rajouri GA Khawaja lauded the role of Smile Trian and said that such organization are doing commendable job for the people. DDC has appreciated the efforts of Mullaney in establishing such organization for the children. Talking to Early Times, Train members said that founder of the Train In 1991, began a pilot program that offered free surgeries to city children, whose scope eventually grew to include the entire metropolitan school district. Surgeons who had been clients of his agency donated time and skills, while Mullaney raised funds to cover the operating expenses. In this arrangement, surgeons donated their services, and Mullaney raised money for expenses, they said. Team members said that although Mullaney called the project Operation Smile, in 1998, Mullaney and Wang split from Operation Smile and co-founded Smile Train in New York in 1999
