| For lifting 550 MTs of garbage, manpower shortage comes in the way of SM | | | Srinagar, October 31: For lifting 550 metric tones of garbage, manpower shortage come in the way of Srinagar Municipal Corporation following which authorities have decided to execute the job of lifting garbage in two shifts in Srinagar city. The decision was taken during a high level meeting of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, which was convened here on Tuesday to take measures for lifting of garbage in two shifts as per the instructions of Chief Minister Gh Nabi Azad. The Srinagar Municipal Corporation, according to the decision, will now lift garbage in morning and after noon shifts. No timing has been fixed for morning shift, but afternoon shift will start from 3.00 P.M daily. The Corporation has constituted special garbage disposal teams to implement the decision and disposal lifting squads will also remove the belongings of shopkeepers displayed on footpaths and roadsides. Talking to KNS, Health Officer Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Dr Shafqat Khan said that the Corporation has to lift 550 metric tones of garbage from municipal limits of Srinagar spread over 310 square kilometers daily. The Corporation, according to Health Officer, puts on job 1500 Safai Karamcharis for lifting 550 metric tones of garbage from the municipal limits of Srinagar, while as the required manpower for doing the said job exceeds 5000 workmen. The garbage disposal squads removed belonging of some shopkeepers from footpaths during the second shift in some areas of Srinagar city today.
