State gets Rs 156.79 crore to meet drought relief expenses | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 30: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla today said that Jammu and Kashmir has received a whopping Rs 156.79 crore to provide relief to the 2009-10 drought hit areas of the state. The sector wise details of the assistance approved by the High Level Committee (HLC) to government of Jammu and Kashmir for drought of 2009-10 include 90 crore for Agriculture Input Subsidy, 2 crore for drinking water supply and 64.77 crore for assistance for providing free ration to the affected families for 90 days (Gratuitous Relief). Talking to media at a press conference here today, Minister informed that state had requested for central assistance in the wake of drought of 2009-10. The High Level Committee (HLC) in its meeting held on 16 September, 2009, considering the memorandum, report of the Central Team, recommendations of the Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG)thereon and the extant items and norms of assistance from CRF/SDRF and NCCF/NDRF, approved Rs 156.77 crore for drought management of 2009-10. He said that the government is fully aware of the problems by faced farmers of the state adding that recent heavy hail storm have extensively damaged the standing crops leading to heavy financial losses to them.
