BJP assails coalition govt
10/30/2010 10:03:36 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, OCT 30: ASSAILING the NC-led coalition government for not extending the 73rd and 74th amendments of the Indian constitution, BJP today alleged that the Congress and National Conference were playing gimmicks to mislead the people and trying to cover up their failure by raising hollow slogans of empowerment of the panchayats and local bodies.
Commenting upon the statement of the chief minister Omar Abdullah that for devolution of power the panchayat elections would be held soon, the leader of the BJP legislators party, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta said that despite their tall claims of empowering the basic democracies to perculate the powers to the lowest level, the fact is that both the coalition partners were never sincere to their professions.
Prof. Gupta said that these elections were delayed every time on one pretext or the other. The NC being a semi-separatist communal outfit does not like to extend the Indian laws though being beneficial to crores in rest of India, the Congress is not less guilty on this account, he added and observed that it sounds amusing, rather ridiculous, that the Congress leaders were now talking about the extensions of 73rd, and 74th amendments of the Indian constitution, the question arises that why they did not do so when they were in power during the previous coalition.
The BJP leader said that both these parties always failed to deliver and now are talking about the devolution of power when they have virtually lost the control over the situation in the troubled valley of Kashmir.
Prof. Gupta said even now if the leaders of the NC Congress coalition are serious to their utterances, they should get extend these two important amendments to the state through an ordinance or a special session of the legislature.
