Papa gets Khan appointed as chairman CVPDC | Tainted get painted! | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 30: Papa's influence over Omar led government has been felt yet again. The former Chief Minister has managed to get a prize post for his friend, Muhammad Yusuf Khan. Yusuf has been appointed as the first chairman of newly created Chenab Valley Power Development Corporation. In his new capacity, Khan will enjoy the status and perks of the chairman NHPC. The newly created corporation intends to set up three power projects capable of generating 212o Mega Watts of power under a joint venture with NHPC and JK SPDC. As per the MoU the JKSPDC would have a share of not more than 49 percent while the NHPC would have share not less than 51 per cent in the Company. The appointment of Khan as chairman of the newly created corporation has been taken with a pinch of salt by the people. Khan was named by the state High Court in the much publicized sex racket in 2006. However, he escaped arrest for unknown reasons. The High Court directed a CBI team to investigate Khan's involvement in the racket. On October 8, 2007 a team headed by SSP RS Dhankar came to assist the CBI team investigating the racket. The High Court also expressed dismay over the way CBI conducted probe with regard to several persons named by the court. The CBI team was under express direction to investigate MY Khan's role in the scam. In addition it was supposed to question former Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen besides Congress and PDP MLAs, Hassan Khan and Yogesh Sawhney, Director General Prisons Rajinder Tickoo, DIG Niyaz Mehmood, SSPs Ashkoor Wani and Sheikh Mehmood. The local newspapers did not mention about Khan's involvement in the scandal. However, an Urdu daily won widespread acclaim for exposing some of the very influential persons including MY Khan. As per the report, a girl called on Khan in his office. After interacting with her for some time, Khan gave her some money. The Chief Minister was also named in the sex scam by the PDP last year. A visibly shaken Omar submitted his resignation in protest . The resignation, however, was not accepted. |
