EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, Oct 30: The Jammu & Kashmir Government is spending crores of rupees in the Information Technology but official documents of the government are misinforming people by publishing wrong data on the state's official portal. Jammu & Kashmir government has perhaps forgotten to update its most important document -web portal of the government www.jamukashmir.nic.in in which Union Minister for Health and Member Parliament Ghulam Nabi Azad is still shown as Member Legislative Assembly Bhaderwah. Union Minister for New & Renewable energy Dr Farooq Abdullah has been shown as MLA Sonawar and Hazratbal Constituencies according to the web portal.
This wrong information given by the government may turned fatal for many candidates appearing for some interviews of the outsiders who gather information from the state web portal.
Not only this, the name of some Ministers and MLA's were mis-spelt. The name of Minister of State, Ajaiz Ahmed Khan has been wrongly written as Ajaj while the name of MLA Poonch Ajaiz Ahmed Jan has been also been written as Ajaj which speaks itself about the sincerity of the concerned department towards flowing information to the people.
If a person has to check total number of districts on this web portal, it mis-inform the users by showing that "J&K state consists of 14 districts" even though the state has 22 districts with eight districts added during the Chief Minister ship of Ghulam Nabi Azad.
According to web site, the profile of Doda districts is given as "7 tehsils viz Ramban, Banihal, Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Gandoh and Thathri" wheras the fact is that Doda district has only 4 tehils viz Doda, Bhaderwah, Gandoh and Thathri. The area of the district has been shown as 11691 square kilometer which is totally wrong figure.
The web portal also gives wrong information about population and literacy rate data. Although there was Census held in 2001, the web portal is giving data according to Census 1991.
Although Shri Amarnath Annual Yatra is famous in India and some other parts of world, the state government has not updated the date regarding the Yatra. According to web portal, government is giving data of only two months of year 2004 from July 15, 2004 to August 8, 2004 and it remained un-updated for the last 6 years.
If somebody desire to read current affairs of the state, don't click state government web portal for the same because it will give you an out dated data on the page. The web sites has given events of 20034 and 2004 and then forget all about the current affairs.
The misleading data available on the official web portals can create confusion about the web users and it can create great damage to the users. "If I will be asked for total districts in J&K state in an Interview and I will answer 14 as recorded by state's official website, I will be rejected in first instance", a candidate Mohammad Altaf said adding that state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should look into the mis-information being supplied by the concerned department to the people should take stern action against them. "These web portals are meant for information and if it started giving wrong information then what is the motto of opening of the web pages", a candidate questioned.
