Govt to set up task committees to assess educational losses | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Oct 31: Jammu and Kashmir government plans to set up task committees at district levels to assess the loss suffered by the students due to the recent unrest in the valley. "Task committees under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioners shall be constituted which will assess the loss suffered by the student community and the measures to be taken to fill the gap caused due to the unrest," an official spokesman said today. The recent unrest in the Valley took a heavy toll on the Education sector, as schools remained shut for 100 days before the institutions were reopened on September 27 when students and teachers given a free passage by security forces, despite curfew and restrictions in many parts. The spokesman said the decision to constitute the task committees was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon here. Chief Educational Officer of the district would be member secretary of the proposed committees which will have representatives from government schools, private institutions and parents as members. He said the meeting discussed the academic loss suffered by the students due to unrest. The meeting discussed threadbare measures to be taken in connection with the reconstruction of the damaged educational infrastructure, the spokesman added.
