Tributes paid to Indira Gandhi

Jammu, Oct 31: The 26th Death Anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was observed throughout the State by the Congress Party today.
The main function was organized at the party's headquarter Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu by the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) coordinated by the celebration committee of 125th Year Foundation Day and DCC Jammu Urban. Secretary AICC Capt. Praveen Davar was the Chief Guest, While paying rich tributes to the Late Prime Minister, Capt. Praveen Davar-Secretary AICC said that the Martyrdom of Indira Gandhi for the cause of nation's unity and integrity will be remembered for generations to come. Her glorious achievements like the historic victory in 1971 war and libration of Bangladesh, Green Revolution, Twenty Point Programme, Bank Nationalisation, Pokhran-I and Garibi Hatao Programe will always remind us of her great contribution in the building of modern India. Capt. Davar said that as Chairperson of Non Align Movement (NAM) conference, the Indo-Soviet friendship treaty of 1971 was a tribute to her contribution in international affairs which is commendable. Her vision paid us handsome dividends in the 1971 war and in the cold war era. All this made Indira Gandhi a tallest and courageous leader for all times to come.
Ravinder Sharma said that let us have guidance from her personality and contributions in dealing the difficult situations we are facing today. We can solve the present embroiling of Jammu and Kashmir State and we draw lessons from the past. Grass root politics was the main agenda of Indira Gandhi. Common man's empowerment was her mission also which we can follow by implementation of 73rd and 74th amendments to empower local self institutions in the State.
Yash Pal Khajuria former Minister also spoke at length about her role and contributions and favored empowerment of Panchayat Raj institutions in the State.
Om Chopra DCC President laid stress on her qualities as a leader of the party and her keen interest in building the party at grass root level.
At Katra, senior Congress leader and former minister Jugal Kishore along with former councillor of Katra municipality paid floral tributes to Indira Gandhi.
Former mayor, JMC Narinder Singh in a function organized by Congress workers paid glowing tributes to ex prime minister Indira Gandhi on her 26th death anniversary here today. Singh said under the dynamic leadership of Indiraji country made rapid progress in various sectors. He also highlighted the contribution she made for the upliftment of down trodden people of the country beside remain guiding force and also became chairperson of NAM.
On the occasion rich tributes were paid to Sardar Vallah Bhai Patel the Iron man of India on his birth anniversary. The function was presided by ex.minister Jugal Kishore Sharma. Others who also paid tributes were Man Mohan Ex-Mayors, Rain Biloria Ex-Dy. Mayor, Ch. Gharu Ram Ex-minister, Sh. Naresh Gupta, Sh Subash Gupta MLCs, Vinod Misher, Maheshwar Singh, Ashok Sharma, Hukam Chand, Darshan Raina, Ashwani Khajuria PCC Office bearers and members and others.
