Dy CM advocates stringent laws to combat prejudice against women | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 1: Centre for Women's Studies, Government College for Women, Parade, today organized a 2-day National Workshop on "Convention on Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women" which was sponsored by University Grant Commission, New Delhi. Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Tara Chand said that due to efforts of various non- governmental and governmental organizations the degree of discrimination against women has tremendously come down as they have now become fully aware of their rights and responsibilities. Tara Chand said that today in the country women is holding significant places in different fields which also inspire other females to broaden their mental horizons and make an identity for themselves. He said that women are working in Police, Army, Air Force etc and are proving themselves best which makes us feel proud. He stressed upon the need to involve educational institutions and anganwadi workers for creating awareness among the women regarding their rights and laws framed for their security and protection. Deputy Chief Minister said that the government has formulated strict rules to deal against discrimination and atrocities being committed on women. He underlined the need of strict enforcement of such laws to evade discrimination against women. Director Colleges, Sham Lal Gupta, Principal Government College for Women Parade, Kiran Bakshi, member National Consultative Committee University Grant Commission (UGC), faculty members, students and volunteers of various NGOs were present on the occasion. |
