Railway services yet to take off, repair work pending on large patches | | | early times report Jammu, Nov 1: Despite taking a stand that the overall situation in Kashmir valley is improving day by day both the state and the centre government do not have the answers to a simple question, 'what is stopping the railway authorities to repair the damaged property of the Indian railway before restarting the regular services"?. At the peak of the volatile situation the railway authorities had suspended rail services in Kashmir from July 31, 2010. The decision was taken under difficult circumstances as families of railway staff posted in Kashmir were feeling scared. The railway authorities had to arrange emergency exit of their staff under tight security arrangements before sending them back home. Senior railway authorities have also approached the state government to extend security cover to the railway staff to carry out repair work between Qazikund and Baramulla on 11 km rail track but there are vulnerable places where even the railway authorities fear going despite having security cover. During the two day visit of the Home Minister the issue of starting rail services was taken up by the railway authorities to ensure proper security cover. Official sources said the lone beneficiary of the rail services inaugurated in Kashmir valley has been the local employees traveling on board the train and in its absence they are the biggest losers. The railway authorities are now hoping that soon after the situation normalises across the Kashmir valley after the visit of the US President Barack Obama they would be able to restart their journey on rail . |
