3 Poonch schools in single 3 room building | After 2005 earthquake, deptt failed to construct buildings for schools | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Nov 1: Tall claims of state government of providing better educational facilities to the students in government schools could be well gauged with the fact that 3 government schools of Poonch are operating from a single building comprising 3 rooms which forced students to attend classes under the roof of open sky. Sources said that three government schools have been kept in a single building by the education authorities Poonch. As per reports, Originally Government Primary School Khori Nar is also housing Government Primary School Kama Khan and Government Middle School Harijan Basti. Sources said that even these rooms are being used for multi-purpose. There is an office and a Kitchen also operating from these rooms. As per local residents, these schools are functioning in a single building for the last 6 years. Sources said that as the department has no buildings for the schools, they have clubbed these schools in a single building for some time. However 6 years have passed, these schools are still not been shifted in their own buildings. With heavy rush of students in the buildings, not even a single school operate properly in the building. "We could not receive proper education in such a jam packed school", a student said requesting not to disclose his name. He added that they have requested several times to the authorities for alternate arrangements to be done for other two schools, they have turned deaf ear to their plights. "This is injustice with us and it speaks itself about the tall claims of the department of providing better educational facilities I the area", a resident Manzoor Ahmed said adding that they are going to shift their wards from this overloaded building to some other school. "How our wards will compete with the rest of students of the state when they have even not a place to sit in the classroom", a parent Rampal said. He added that this is clear cut human rights violation on part of the education department. The students said that they could not concentrate on their studies and just remain in the try to get a space in the classroom. "How we will study in such an environment", students said. When contacted, Member Legislative Assembly Poonch Aijaz Ahmed Jan said that there are few schools in the districts which got damaged due to 2005 earthquake following which then administration had shifted some schools to the buildings safe for the students. He however said that he had already taken up the matter with the concerned department and these schools will be shifted in the new buildings very soon. "We are keen to shift the students in their respective school buildings but the decision of housing the schools in one building was taken only for the safety of the students because there might have been untoward incident in the damaged schools", he added. Chief Education Officer Poonch RK Raina giving his version said that there was no building of GMS Harijan Basti from its inception and was earlier attached with Girls School Poonch however following earthquake when Girls school was damaged, Harijan basti school was attached with Khori Nar School.
