‘Say no to crackers’ rally organised

Udhampur , Nov 2: A rally on the theme “Say no to crackers” was organized at Government college for women Udhampur in order to create awareness among the students in particular and masses in general.
The rally was flagged off by the Chief Guest Mr. Baseer Ahmed Khan, District development Commissioner Udhampur while speaking on the occasion
stressed upon Eco-friendly Diwali by using traditional methods to celebrate the Diwali and Say No To Crackers and make this district safe, clean, noise & pollution free and eco-friendly environment.
Earlier while explaining the motto of the rally Prof. Umesh Kailoo, convener IQAC said that burning of crackers produces tones of carbon dioxide (Co2) and Carbon monoxide (Co) on the day of Diwali. Carbon dioxide produces Green House Effect and is a major cause of Global warming. Carbon monoxide causes permanent binding with Hemoglobin causing respiratory diseases. Moreover, noise pollution caused by cracking crackers leads to mental distress.
The Oath ceremony was conducted where students of the college pledged not to use crackers but will celebrate Diwali by using only Eco-friendly products.
The rally proceeded from the college with NSS troop headed by Richpal Singh &. Aksa NSS programme officers and NCC troop headed by Shivani Sharma along with students of the college which passed through Salian Talab Chowk via Chabotra Bazar to Gole Market Udhampur and culminated at GCW Old campus.
At GCW old campus the rally was received by Chief Guest Dilbagh Singh IGP IPS Director Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy
