Sprawling Buds students pledge for `safe’ diwali | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu. Nov 2: The young students of Sprawling Buds School in Chinore area of the city pledged to make this Diwali safe and environment friendly by curbing bursting of noisy and air polluting fire crackers. “Keeping in view the fact that Diwali is a festival of lights not of firecrackers, today’s function intended to create awareness among young minds about the growing need of keeping our environment clean. There are several firecrackers, which create both noise and air pollution leading to damages to the human body, besides the climate,” said Principal of the School, Pooja Sharma. She added that the pledge would teach the students to protect the environment, conserve it so as to strike a balance between environment and humans. In turn, the students of middle standard appealed all children not to waste their parents hard-earned money on fire-crackers. A debate competition was also organized on the occasion, on the topic, “Say No To Crackers”. Most of the students took active part in this competition and expressed views. As also the students from kindergarten wing were involved in candle- decoration activity. Students were made to decorate candles using ribbons, stars, glitter etc. Winners of the debate competition were given away prizes by the Principal. Bhuvnesh, Nikhil and Parth got the first, second and third prize respectively. Later, one of the Directors of the school, Arti Sharma said, “We have been conducting this awareness for last three years. We appeal to all people to join us in our sincere pursuit to ask people to stay away from burning crackers and celebrate the festival distinctly with lights.”
