Announcement of Panchayat elections welcome step: JKPCC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, Nov 2: Present decision of the state government to hold Panchayat elections in near future is welcome step which will ensure people’s participation in the implementation of rural development schemes in the state. Existing system of execution of village infrastructure schemes is practically controlled by government machinery wherein element of public participation is limited. This was stated by former Minister Vice-President of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and state Chairman of All India Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan while addressing workers meeting at Village Tikri in District Udhampur. He added that non-existence of Village Panchayats has also affected works/programmes being executed under various centrally sponsored schemes in rural areas.
