Diwali celebrated at Model Academy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 2: A colourful festival of Diwali was celebrated at both the BC Road & Residency Road branch of Model Academy and Humming Buds, its pre-school. The festival was celebrated with a difference to promote the concept of an eco friendly Diwali which is the need of the hour as children were educated about the harmful effects of crackers and the pollution they cause in the environment. Arun Gupta, chairman MIER, Renu Gupta, director and Adit Gupta, joint director greeted all the staff and students on this occasion. The day began with the Laxmi pujan by garlanding goddess Laxmi as the goddess is believed to bring peace & prosperity. A symbol of good luck ‘Toran’ of mango leaves and marigold was used for decorating the classrooms and rangoli along with poem recitation competitions were organized in the school. In the end sweets were distributed to children and they were told the story of lord Ram & his exile and as to why the festival is celebrated. A ‘Rangoli competition’ was organized for the mothers of the Humming Buds who made beautiful traditional motifs using powdered colours flower petals, coloured rice & cowdust. Prizes were distributed among the winners. The students of the school wing also celebrated Diwali by organising Diya decoration, Rangoli and card making competitions. Usha Gaddoo, vice principal Model Academy announced the result of the various competitions and appreciated the efforts put in by the competitors. Rupa Gupta, principal, Model Academy, Residency Road branch also greeted every one on the occasion and thanked the mothers of the children for participating in various events and making the programme a grand success. Vote of thanks was proposed by Gayatri Kotwal, incharge Primary Wing.
